Becoming Grateful After a Year in Isolation

The Covid-19 Pandemic changed the world and how we live in it completely. At the moment when I started to self-isolate all I could think about was all the negatives about the situation. How many lives were being lost, how many jobs were being lost, and all the people and places that I missed.

However, after some time passed I acquired a new and more positive perspective. Instead of thinking about everything that I, and everyone in the world, was losing because of the Pandemic, I started to think of everything I have and appreciate in my life. For example my family, my friends, and my school.

I started to reflect on everything I took for granted before the Pandemic, and I promised myself to  be actively grateful of what I have and of the simple things in life like holding the people I love close, which was not a possibility during isolation.

I expressed these feelings of gratefulness through a video. I thought that the best way to do so was through a personal up close video of myself, and through a montage of videos and photos of my friends and family. The video of myself speaking was the A roll and the montage of videos and photos was the B roll, which supported and demonstrated what I was expressing in the video of myself.

The power of music and its effect on the viewer was a very important aspect of my video. I chose a slow, sad song for the background in order to reflect my feelings and incite those same nostalgic feelings in my viewers.
The part that took the most time for me was editiding, I wanted to make sure that the video was organized, yet dynamic. The majority of my creative process occurred while I was editing because each time that I played the video, I got a new idea that I incorporated into my video.

For example when I thought I was done editing and played the video again, I realized that I wanted to incorporate more videos or more photos in some parts in order to have more balance.

By being the content producer I learned how much attention to detail is needed in these kinds of projects. For example how every transition matters and how every aspect of the video should work together to send the overall message. I learned that there are a variety of ways of expressing an idea effectively and creatively.
