Learning Drums

The positive I chose to talk about in my quarantine experience was learning a new instrument.  This was probably the only good part of quarantine for me because I had always wanted to learn drums.  In high school we tried forming a band, but we could never find a good drummer or if he was good he would never show up.  This caused me to want to learn drums myself, but I never had the time or the money to buy a drum kit.  Then the pandemic hit and after a couple of months of doing nothing my Dad encouraged me to get a job.  I got a job albeit one at a place with poor management.  Nevertheless,  I was glad to have the money to finally buy a drum kit and try learning drums.  Even though the drum teacher was kind of weird and drums was harder than I thought I still had fun.  I stopped doing the classes because I didn't like the teacher, but I still enjoy playing sometimes even though I am not very good right now.  I found drums to be another good way for me to relax.

I made the video with B roll and audio of me talking over it.  I was going to show some clips of me playing drums, but I changed phones and realized I did not save the video.  If I were to redo it I would probably include these videos because it would make the video more personal.

Learning Adobe Premiere in order to make the video was challenging, but was a positive experience for me.  I had some knowledge of the software because I was in a theater class in freshman year of high school where we used it, but I had forgot most of what I learned.  In the process of relearning I gained a better understanding of how to make a title animation, adding subtitles, and clipping audio.  I am really glad I learned how to do this because I have wanted to make YouTube videos for a while as I always have ideas I think are good but I never had the motivation to learn how to edit.

This project was different than a lot of projects I do for other classes, but I think it has more of a real world application than anything I have done in a while.  Not only did I gain a better understanding of how to use a complicated software like Adobe Premiere which I hope to use in the future, but it made me think outside of the box to come up with a positive in a time in my life that was mostly negative.  If I were to redo it however, I would want to include more pictures or videos of me like I said, and I would also try to be less contemptuous even when trying to talk about a positive in my life.
