Creating a print ad for La Piña Bohemia was something really exciting for me not only because I find the products they sell unique and trendy but also because I had the opportunity to work with them for consecutive years over the summer.La Piña Bohemia | Pop Up Show
When I was an intern at this local store in Guatemala I was in-charge of creating the store's ads, managing merchandise and managing some of their social media pages. Because of this, when creating this poster design I always kept in mind the advice my boss gave me in order to create adequate promotions for their store. My boss clearly believed that the target audience should immediately get the message of what is being sold when looking at their advertisements.
La Piña Bohemia is a local business that sells different brands of beachwear clothing brought from all around the world. It is called la Piña Bohemia mainly because the owner believed in bringing the bohemian/beachy trend to Guatemala. Some of the brands sold include: Agua Bendita (Colombia), Beach Riot (California), Pitusa (Peru) along with many others.
Furthermore, it is fundamental to mention that when creating their advertisements the store always includes symbols and colors that associate to their central theme which is why I used the colors light blue, brown, beige, and white to give the audience a sense of “vacation”.
In this design, the color white serves as a symbolizer of mental clarity and a sense of purity, freshness, innocence or goodness. Additionally, light blue is a peaceful, calming color that is said to promote feelings of tranquility. Furthermore, in my design I included a woman in a white dress on the beach which serves as the most important signifier as it demonstrates what the store is trying to sell.
The woman also notifies individuals what are the products that will be present at this event. Both the specific use of colors and semiotics are crucial in order to attract customers who love spending their summer on the beach, wearing the best swimsuits and looking fabulous.
